A memo to citizens on the fight against corruption

The fight against corruption is one of the priorities of the Russian police. Abuse of official authority, bribery, commercial bribery, creation of artificial "barriers" and restrictions when applying for participation in auctions and quotation commissions or other illegal use by an individual of his official position contrary to the legitimate interests of society and the state in order to obtain benefits in the form of money, valuables, other property or services for third parties is all corruption manifestations.

Taking a bribe is one of the most dangerous official crimes. Especially if it is committed by a group of persons or is accompanied by extortion, which consists in obtaining advantages and benefits for legal or illegal actions (inaction) by an official.

What should you do if a bribe is extorted from you? How to recognize and what to do? If someone demands an illegal monetary reward for their services or for turning a blind eye to something, the citizen should:
  • to behave extremely cautiously, politely, but without fawning, not allowing rash statements that could be interpreted either as willingness or refusal to give a bribe or commit bribery;
  • listen carefully and accurately remember the conditions set (the amount of amounts, the name of the goods and the nature of the services, the timing and methods of transferring the bribe, the form of bribery, the sequence of solving issues);
  • try to postpone the choice of time and place of transfer of the bribe to the next conversation or, if this is not possible, offer a well-known place for the next meeting;
  • ask the interlocutor about the guarantees of resolving the issue in case of bribery or bribery;
  • without taking the initiative in the conversation, let the potential bribe recipient "talk it out, give as much information as possible.

In order to stop the activities of a corrupt official, it is necessary to immediately send an oral or written message about an impending crime to the police department at the place of residence or prepare a statement to the prosecutor's office.

Oral reports and written statements are accepted by law enforcement agencies, regardless of the place and time of the crime, AROUND the CLOCK.

When contacting a citizen, it is necessary to state the essence of the problem, to tell how they are trying to influence him. All the details that the citizen remembered in the extortionist's office will be useful here.

In case of refusal to accept a message (statement) from you about a corruption crime, you have the right to appeal these illegal actions to higher authorities, as well as file a complaint against illegal actions of law enforcement officers to the Prosecutor's Office of the region, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, which carry out prosecutorial supervision of the activities of law enforcement agencies.

Remember: law enforcement agencies have a wide range of opportunities to fight corruption, but without appeals and active assistance from citizens, this fight slows down significantly!

Let's defeat corruption together!
