Evaluation of the effectiveness of research

Determination of the citation index of a scientist using the DATABASE Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI)

The author can be searched in the RSCI database by surname, subject, name of the organization, city, region, country.

In order to obtain the most reliable data on the citation of a scientist, you should have a complete list of his publications, drawn up in accordance with the current GOST standards for the bibliographic description of documents.

The citation index of a scientist obtained using the RSCI database is incomplete due to the limited list and retrospective of the journals being processed. Monographs, dissertations and abstracts of dissertations, patents, and articles from collections have not yet been processed as reference sources, but references to them have been taken into account since 2010.

It should be borne in mind that the creators include articles from translated Russian and some foreign journals in the "Russian Science Citation Index", which are reflected in international systems (Web of Science, Scopus, etc.). This may lead to some overestimation of the citation index.

In 2009, a new function appeared in the RSCI database - "Analysis of the author's publication activity", which provides a variety of statistical data on the number of articles and their citation. Since this function is experimental, some indicators may not be calculated correctly.

The order of execution

According to Order No. 406 of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation dated 10/14/2009, when analyzing publication activity, citations are taken into account for the five years preceding the current year.

1. Go to the website of the Scientific Electronic Library at http://elibrary.ru / (free access)

2. Select the section "Russian Science Citation Index".

3. Select the "Search for authors" item.

4. Type the surname and initials of the scientist. The case does not matter.

Note.

  • If the surname is not too common, initials can be omitted.
  • Initials – one or both – are separated by a space, it is not necessary to put a period after them, for example: petrov v d

5. If necessary, refine the search by specifying the subject, name of the organization, city, region, country.

6. Start the search.

7. Display links to the works of the author you are looking for by hovering the cursor over the number of citations (column "Citations"). By default, only links included in the author's citation list ("linked") are shown.

8. In order for the citation index to be more complete, it is necessary to include in the list "unrelated" links that may belong to the desired author.

9. Update the list by clicking the <Search> button.

10. Create a text file.

11. Using the YEAR OF the QUOTING PUBLICATION parameter, search for citations of the desired author for each year (out of five required), copying relevant publications to the created file (excluding links to "other people's" works and possible duplication).

12. Count the number of links for each year and the final number.

Note. The citation is determined by the number of sources that cited the publications of the desired author. At the same time, the same work can be cited several times in different sources.

13. If necessary, make a list (in the header, specify the surname and initials of the scientist, the name and chronological framework of the database used, the final result, the date of execution of the request, the surname of the performer) and give it to the user.

14. In foreign systems (Scopus, Web of Science), the citation index is presented in the form of a table. In the RSCI database, the table must be compiled manually.
