A native of Pyatigorsk. The son of a handicraftsman. He received his medical education at Berlin and Kiev Universities. A participant in the First World War. The medical specialty is a forensic medical expert. He had extensive practical experience in senior positions in the healthcare system of the city and the region. Prior to his appointment as director of the Institute, he headed the Stavropol Medical College. Thanks to his efforts, the difficulties of the establishment and the initial period of the institute were successfully overcome.


Pavel Vasilyevich Polosin

He headed the Institute from 1941 to 1951.

He is a native of the Ryazan region. The son of a village psalmist. He graduated from three-year pedagogical courses (1921), Voronezh Medical Institute (1932). Until 1928, he worked in Komsomol and party work. He is a general practitioner (dermatovenerologist). Candidate of Medical Sciences. After graduation, he became a postgraduate student, assistant at the Clinic of Skin and Venereal Diseases, deputy Dean of the Medical Faculty of the Voronezh Medical Institute. In February 1941, he was appointed director of the Voroshilov Medical Institute. Special merit of P.V. Polosina is the organization of the restoration of the educational process and the material base of the Institute after the occupation of the city of Stavropol.


Vladimir Grigoryevich Budylin

He headed the institute from 1951 to 1964.

He was born in Baku in the family of an office worker. He graduated from the Medical Faculty of Baku University (1925). He worked in practical healthcare in the hospitals of the Caspian Sea and the Lower Volga region. Since 1931, he taught at the Voronezh Medical Institute. Since 1940 – Head of the Department of Pathological Physiology of the Dagestan Medical Institute. In January 1952, he was appointed director of the Stavropol Medical Institute. Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor. Under him, a new main building of the institute was built on Mira Street, the dental faculty was opened, the building of the student dormitory No. 1 was laid, and a student camp was opened in Arkhyz. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.


Vladislav Yurievich Pervushin

He headed the Institute from 1964 to 1970.

He was born in Kazan in a family of teachers of a medical university. He graduated from the Leningrad Military Medical Academy named after S.M. Kirov (1948). He served in the Airborne Forces, then taught at the Military Medical Academy. He graduated from the service with the rank of lieutenant colonel of the medical service. He was the head of the Department of Anatomy at the Orenburg Medical Institute, was the rector of the Kemerovo Medical Institute. In 1964, he was transferred to the position of rector in Stavropol. Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor. Special merit of Yu.V. Pervushina – the opening of the Council for the defense of PhD theses at the university, the Faculty of advanced medical training, the modernization of the educational process, the creation of subject-methodical commissions. He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and many other awards.


Yuri Petrovich Mikhailichenko

He headed the Institute from 1970 to 1980.

He was born in Borisoglebsk, Voronezh region, in the family of an employee. He graduated from the Odessa Naval Medical School (1948), Stavropol Medical Institute (1963). He served as a senior paramedic in military units of the Navy. After completing his clinical residency, he worked as an instructor in the regional committee of the Komsomol, secretary of the party committee of the Stavropol Medical Institute. In 1970 he was appointed rector. Candidate of Medical Sciences. A brilliant organizer, he attached great importance to the further development of students' research work.


Viktor Viktorovich Bodulin

He headed the Institute from 1980 to 1987.

He was born in Kuibyshev in the family of a doctor. Graduated from Stavropol Medical Institute (1957). He worked as the head of the surgical department of the Nevinnomyssk city Hospital. Since 1961, he has been a postgraduate student at the SSMI Department of Hospital Surgery, assistant at the Department of General Surgery, associate professor and head of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology. In 1979, he was appointed Vice-rector for Scientific Work, and in 1980 he assumed the duties of rector. Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor. Special merit of V. V. Bodulina is a significant contribution to the improvement and development of the educational and material base of the university, improvement of living conditions in student dormitories, development of the sports life of the university.


Boris Dmitrievich Minaev

He headed the Institute and the Academy from 1987 to 2008.

He was born in Aktobe in the family of a military doctor. Graduated with honors from Dagestan State Medical Institute (1965). He worked at the Department of Pharmacology as a senior laboratory assistant. Since 1970, he joined the Stavropol Medical Institute at the Department of Hygiene. He passed the service stages of a junior researcher, associate professor, deputy dean and dean of the Faculty of Pediatrics, successfully combining pedagogical, organizational and scientific activities. Candidate of Medical Sciences, Professor. Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Eurasian Academy of Medical Sciences. He was awarded the Orders of Friendship, For services to the Fatherland of the IV degree, the badge "Excellent Health Worker" and many other awards. The most important tasks of B.D. Minaev are the expansion of the clinical base, the construction of new academic buildings, the opening of additional departments and courses, and the transformation of the institute into an academy.


Valentina Nikolaevna Muravyeva

She led the Academy and the university from 2008 to 2014.

In 1974, V. N. Muravyeva graduated from the Stavropol State Medical Institute with a degree in dentistry, and in 1997 graduated from the Belgorod University of Consumer Cooperation with a degree in law.

In 1987 she defended her PhD thesis, and in 1999 her doctoral dissertation on the topic "Medical and social adaptation of children and adolescents in modern socio-economic conditions of a large city". From 1974 to 1980, she worked in the governing bodies of the VLKS M. V. N. Muravyova. In 1980, she was appointed chief physician of the Orphanage, then completed clinical residency, full-time postgraduate studies in pediatrics at the Stavropol State Medical Institute. Since 1984, she has worked as an assistant at the Department of Pediatric Diseases, and since 1992, she has been the General director of the EMESK medical insurance company.

From 1994 to 2008, she worked as Deputy Head of the Stavropol City Administration for Social Affairs, assistant to the Governor of the Stavropol Territory.

For two years she worked in Algeria as a pediatrician. V. N. Muravyova has been acting rector since December 2008, and in 2009 rector of the Stavropol State Medical Academy.

Since 1999, she has combined work in the administration with teaching as a professor at the Department of Public Health and Public Health of the Stavropol State Medical Academy.

Under the leadership of Valentina Nikolaevna, the academy received the status of a university.

Vladimir Ivanovich Koshel

He led the university from 2015 to 2020.

He was born on March 10, 1959. In 1982, he graduated from the Stavropol State Medical Institute, clinical residency in the specialty "otorhinolaryngology", postgraduate studies. From 1988 to 1995, he worked as a teacher at Stavropol State Medical University: assistant, associate professor and professor of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology. From 1995 to 1996 — Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Stavropol State Medical University. Since 1996 — Professor, since 2000 — Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology. In 1989, V. I. Koshel defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences, in 1999 — Doctor of Medical Sciences. From 2002 to 2014, simultaneously with his teaching activities, V. I. Koshel was engaged in practical work in medical institutions as chief physician: Stavropol Regional Clinical Center for Specialized Types of Medical Care and Shpakovskaya Central District Hospital.

Under the leadership of V.I. Koshel, the StSMU began the implementation of the University Clinics project with the participation of 16 medical organizations – clinical bases of the university. The University has consolidated its leading position in the region, was appointed coordinator of the scientific and educational medical cluster of the North Caucasus Federal District, which includes 8 universities and medical faculties of the region. On the basis of StSMU, one of the nine "Saver Clinic" training centers in the Russian Federation was established to teach the principles and technologies of lean manufacturing to employees of various ministries and institutions, medical organizations. New segments of the Center for Practical Skills have been opened: emergency medicine and emergency conditions; for independent work; for conducting the procedure of primary accreditation of graduates in the specialties "Medicine", "Pediatrics", "Dentistry". A specialized obstetric and gynecological simulation center has been established on the basis of the Stavropol Clinical Perinatal Center.

The scope of the University's international cooperation has significantly expanded: partnership agreements have been concluded with educational and scientific organizations from near and far abroad, which made it possible to conduct joint scientific research and organize academic exchange.
